At the festival, attendees are able to witness one of the most exciting and colorful display of Mexican equestrian traditions. The Charros symbolize Mexican ranch life in much the same way Clint Eastwood represents the American west. A combination of cowboy and knight-errant, the charro is valiant and skillful. Iowans learned about the charreada, a rodeo, which evoloved from informal contests the vaqueros or cowboys held to show off their ranching skills, such as bronco riding and roping. The sport can best be described as living history, an art form drawn from the demands of a working life. This feature at the festival is thoroughly enjoyed by all!
