Iowa’s Latino Heritage Festival began in 2002 as a way to celebrate the positive influences Latinos have had on our state and local communities. This festival unites all of the Latin cultures that are present in Iowa through a celebration of arts, music, dance, food and other entertainment. It has grown to become the largest Latino festival in the state and the largest ethnic event in Iowa.

The 2021 Latino Heritage Festival is Sept. 28 and 29 at Western Gateway Park in downtown Des Moines. The festival runs from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sept. 28, and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sept. 29.

We welcome anyone to attend. Free parking is available courtesy of Nationwide in the Nationwide parking ramp at 1100 Walnut St. There is also free street parking on weekends in downtown Des Moines.

Cost is $5 for adults; $1 for children 12 and younger.

All vendors must meet specific requirements and obtain all required licenses and permits from the Iowa Department of Inspection and Appeals. A list of requirements is located here:

Volunteers are vital to the success of the Latino Heritage Festival. We have a role for anyone who wants to help, whether he or she is an individual or part of a group. Volunteers help behind the scenes, set up and take down for the festival, run children’s activities, take admission tickets, serve at the beer tent, answer questions and much more.

Volunteers receive free admission, parking and a volunteer T-shirt.
